Last month, our MyQuickCloud Business Development team and myself headed to Accountex, the biggest Accounting exhibition of the year. Like in previous years, we had a good time meeting known faces as well as new partners, catching up on the latest software trends and general developments in the Accounting industry.
Not only are trade shows like these great to meet clients and partners face to face, they’re also the best place to get an update on an industry’s state of the art. Hence, it was interesting to see how Accounting is developing and where it’s moving towards, listening to industry voices and first-hand user feedback. We also used the opportunity to present the new MyQuickCloud Partner Program to different software vendors by the likes of Reckon, Iris and Advanced and were happy to receive some positive feedback.
The focus of this year’s Accountex was obvious: desktop based software is moving online, either through web versions or through hosting. A vast majority of talks and panel discussions highlighted the benefits of the cloud for practitioners and its key position in the future of Accounting. The list of cloud advantages is long, including higher flexibility, cost-efficiency as well as improved workflow and productivity. Therefore, the pressure on software vendors to create an online offering is high, in order to stay competitive.
However, as we were talking to independent software vendors (ISVs) and accountants at the show, it became clear that despite the apparent trend, web- and cloud solutions aren’t the number one choice for most users. When asking for the reasons, respondents mainly referred to:
- web versions of existing desktop programs often being too basic in their functionalities and features,
- hosting usually being too costly,
- hosting sensitive data not being regarded as a safe option,
- hosting providers often hosting one application but not any other integrated applications.
The feedback we received confirmed the need for a solution that caters both, users’ as well as ISVs’ needs. For ISVs, moving online usually requires high investment in hardware, R&D, migration and time, and most of all rarely generates any new revenue.
In order to offer ISVs an instant, out-of-the-box online solution, we developed our Partner Program. To find out more, please take a look at our recent webinar.
